The University of Alabama is committed to elevating the research enterprise on campus and tie it directly to the current and future benefit of our students and the state of Alabama. The University is uniquely positioned to become one of the premier comprehensive research institutions in the Southeastern United States and in so doing translate research productivity and innovation to economic and societal development.
One of the fastest growing research enterprises in the nation, UA was named a Very High Research Activity doctoral university in late 2018 by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education, the nation’s highest level of research activity for institutions that grant doctoral degrees. Additionally, fiscal year 2020 was the seventh consecutive year UA earned record external funding for research and other sponsored activities, with sponsored awards rising 70% over the past two fiscal years.
To build on this momentum and opportunity, the UA research enterprise plans to further increase the size and impact of our research and scholarly activity, with an eye toward synergies and addressing our state, national and global challenges. We need to increase access and achievements for our students while elevating our transformative initiatives and upgrading facilities.
We look forward to partnering with you to power more success.
