College of Education

The College of Education at The University of Alabama holds fast to its charter, expressed in 1844, as offering courses “with particular instruction in the art and business of a teacher.” Today, we are the largest producer of teachers in the state and pride ourselves on preparing school professionals who understand children, advance the highest causes of democracy and possess the subject matter knowledge and methodological competencies needed to bring improvements to the educational lives of children.

Funding Highlights

  • New Community Engagement Efforts

    Support for our Statewide Afterschool Network, Gadsden Early Learning Initiative and Evidence-Based International Early Intervention Office.

  • Statewide UA Literacy Center

    Literacy intervention that focuses on preschool children and their parents and struggling readers in the early elementary school grades.

  • Teacher Shortage Scholarships

    These scholarships encourage teachers to take appointments in areas where fully certified teachers are critically low.

  • Endowed Professorships

    Establishing endowed professorships in key grant-seeking areas will deliver more resources to the college, lifting its reputation.

Lifting Lives with Optimism and Hope

In the College of Education, our faculty, staff, students, and many stakeholders recognize the importance of community.

One of the ways in which we demonstrate this is by joining school educators and leaders, scholars, educational researchers, and health professionals in conducting cutting-edge research, developing innovative professional practices, and implementing much-needed service initiatives.

Whether our work occurs in  Pre-K-12 schools, university classrooms, off-campus settings, research laboratories, or community agencies, we embrace the diverse thoughts and experiences represented which can help us flourish.  These efforts allow us to inform policies and practices that elevate the college’s influence beyond our campus and local boundaries.
